‘I buy the boxes and they are delicious. Some are more delicious than others, I like Ambrosia.

“It’s good because my husband will eat anything as long as it has custard.”

She went on to make an even more shocking revelation: “And I haven’t made puff pastry in 25 years.”

When asked about a piece of kitchen equipment she thinks is most useful, Dame Prue surprised the audience by praising deep fryers.

While she said the traditional potato peeler was her number one choice, Dame Prue said that in terms of modern equipment, she “hates to say it” but she uses a deep fryer.

Dame Prue even revealed how she recently made a chocolate cake using a deep fryer, oven and microwave and found they all turned out equally delicious.

He added: “The fryer causes the least mess.”

However, Dame Prue added, you can’t “cheat” with every recipe.

“I don’t think you can cheat in the sense of being able to buy absolutely anything at the grocery store and mix it up,” he said.
