The mysterious case of a gorilla statue stolen from a nursing home has been solved after eagle-eyed police spotted it in the backyard of a Melbourne home during a police flyover.
‘Garry’, the 1.5-metre gorilla statue, went missing from the Leith Park retirement complex in St Helena, in the northern suburbs, a month ago.
An extensive investigation led Victoria Police to focus their attention on a residence in Reservoir.
The Air Wing was called in for an undercover flight which located Garry languishing in the yard of the property.
A search warrant executed at the residence on Monday resulted in the silverback being taken into police custody.
Greensborough police will return Garry to the gates of the retirement community on Wednesday as investigations into the crime continue.
