New Jersey prosecutors have declined to press charges against the owner of two pit bulls who killed a three-year-old boy and injured his mother on March 16.

Aziz Ahmed died after the two unregistered dogs invaded his backyard and attacked him and his mother in Carteret.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office said investigators had determined that they had not found “ willful, knowing or reckless criminal behavior ” by the dog owner, whose name was not immediately known.

The letter, written by prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, was sent to supporters of the Ahmed family on March 23, according to NJ Advance Media

“In this case, based on the information currently available, it appears that no law has been broken,” the letter reads.

So, despite the well-intentioned demands for justice, no charges will be brought at this time. Again, this decision is based on the facts and evidence currently known to law enforcement. ‘

There are no state laws in New Jersey specific to dog attacks, and prosecutors must find ways to sue pet owners under existing laws.

A vigil was held in memory of the young boy on Sunday, where attendees called on lawmakers to pass the “ Law of Aziz ”, which could face criminal prosecution for owners of killer dogs.

“If there is no law, we will fight to make it,” Grandma Morgan, an employee of Aziz’s father Tanveer, told the outlet.

“They hold people responsible for jaywalking or making a dog poop on your front yard.”

She previously told the Wall outlet: How do you comfort someone who loses a three-year-old? Now his wife, we won’t do it if it turns out well, she will never be herself again. ‘

The Auto Parts at Coney Island in Avenel, where Tanveer Ahmed works, is one GoFundMe to help pay for his young son’s funeral expenses, who have since raised more than $ 225,000.

“The young mother fought with everything she had to save her son, despite her efforts to save her son, his injuries were too serious even with the help of first responders, little Aziz could not be saved,” the GoFundMe said.

“As for Aziz’s mother, she’s still fighting for her life and still needs multiple surgeries, she’ll never fully recover from the scars she has to live with now.”

A neighbor said the dogs bit some residents who know not to walk near the house where the pit bulls live. WABC TV reported.

The pit bulls, who have the New York Post identified as Logan and Rocky, had somehow slipped past a fence into the backyard.

After the attack, Aziz was taken to a hospital with an airlift and aerial images of it NBC4 showed first responders performing chest compressions on him.

The dogs had been reported to police earlier in October when residents reported being loose in the neighborhood, a Carteret spokesperson told NJ Advance Media.

Both dogs have since been euthanized by Carteret Mayor Daniel J. Reiman earlier told the outlet in a statement.

“As a small community, our Carteret family mourns the heartbreaking loss of our young neighbor and we pray for this young mother and family during this time of unimaginable grief,” said Reiman.

Patch had reported that when Carteret agents shot one of the pit bulls immediately upon reaching the scene and the other was later euthanized.
