A professional cleaner has provided the ultimate end-of-rental cleaning guide to ensure tenants get their security deposit back after moving out of a rental property.
Kaycie, from Melbourne, shared a TikTok video shows the five areas many renters often forget to clean in the run-up to the final inspection — including window rails, ceiling fans, and the surrounds around the shower.
‘Moving out of a rented house? Here are the top five things property managers have a hawk’s eye for that you can complete before you leave for the day,” she said.
“It’s drilled into our brains not to miss these things.”

The Five Areas Property Managers Always Check
1. Window tracks
2. Oven – inside and outside
3. Cooking Knobs
4. Borders around the shower screen
5. Exhaust fans and ceiling fans
She urged renters to thoroughly clean the window rails to remove the dirt and grime.
“Property managers are obsessed with window rails,” Kaycie said.
“The best way to clean window rails is to suck out the excess (with a small attachment) and then place a cloth over the end of a toothbrush to clean.”
She said to pay attention to the edges around the shower screen as there are usually hidden soap scum, mold or rust stains.
The oven must be thoroughly cleaned inside and out.
“Use a toothbrush to get into the corners of the oven,” Kaycie said.
She said “greasy” cooking knobs are often neglected during cleanup.
If they come off, soak the buds in soapy water and wipe the surface.
Other places to clean are the exhaust fans and ceiling fans.

Her video has since been viewed more than 840,000 times, and many say her cleaning tips will come in handy next time the lease ends.
Many shared their own horror stories after struggling to get their bonds back.
“The window track is real. We called in a professional to do it and the landlord complained that there was a single dead fly in the garage window frame,” one wrote.
While another said: ‘Yeah, the window marks got to me when I moved. I didn’t know it could be cleaned.’
Some professional cleaners agreed with Kaycie’s checklist, with one saying, “I’ve been a cleaner for five years – property managers literally take all that stuff.”
