A professional cleaning lady has revealed why the disinfectant spray you use in your kitchen and bathroom might not do anything — and her trick promises to change the way you clean your home.

The cleaner, Kacie, of Melbourne, said most people don’t realize that popular supermarket disinfectant sprays need to be left on a surface for 10 minutes to be effective at removing germs.

Many just use the spray and wipe it off right away once it’s applied.

Post to TikTokKacie said, “So you think you’re a clean freak? Well, here’s a hard truth from a professional cleaner.

“Just because you’re using a disinfectant spray doesn’t mean you’re disinfecting anything (you have to read the labels).

“These supermarket sprays have to stay on a surface for 10 minutes to kill germs.”

Kacie added that the little-known information can often be found on the back of a bottle of disinfectant spray.

More than 600,000 people who saw the clip were impressed by the new information and said they never realized you had to be so careful with your sprays.

“So you’re saying my toilet, which I cleaned thoroughly today, is dirty through and through?” a commenter posted.

Another said: ‘Omg, I NEVER read the label!’

Others said they do it by accident because they are lazy. They just squirt the spray on it and leave, getting a cup of coffee while the spray soaks in.

This isn’t the first bit of wisdom Kacie has shared on TikTok.

Previously, she surprised millions with the knowledge that you should not only wipe your hobs and clean your ovens, but also the knobs.

“Here’s a life-changing hack for kitchen cleaning brought to you by a professional cleaning lady,” Kacie wrote in an earlier video.

“Pull off the knobs on your oven. Yes, you heard me. Pull them off.

“That’s how you give them a good brushing.”

Rather than trying to wipe them down when they’re in the oven, Kacie recommends washing your knobs in the sink to make sure they’re properly disinfected before putting them back in the oven.

You can do the same with the knobs on the hob.

“You don’t have to let the gunk build up from your cooking fingers,” Kacie said.

“Try this and get a perfectly clean oven.”
