Prison Break could soon be about to get a full-fledged spin-off series, but fans aren’t happy about it.

On Thursday, Deadline reported that Hulu has picked up a pilot episode of a new show set in the same universe as the infamous crime drama made famous by Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell.

While plot details so far remain up in the air, the project is said to be helmed by The Outlaws co-creator Elgin James.

It was previously reported that the new drama will not focus on the characters of Wentworth and Dominic, Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows.

Prison Break fans, however, couldn’t be less excited about the potential new show in the works and criticized the lack of original ideas.

On X, formerly Twitter, one said: “LEAVE IT AT WHAT.”

‘Can we stop rebooting things that no one is going to see?’ another post read.

A third fumed: “Nothing has ever been more unnecessary than this.” Serialized television is really dead because no one has original ideas anymore. It’s just pointless reboot after pointless reboot.

Echoing a similar sentiment, a fourth continued: “For the love of God, just create new original ideas instead of dragging old programs into chaos.”

“Stop rebooting shows and reusing old ideas,” added a fifth. “It’s boring now.”

A sixth said: “This is one of my two favorite series but I don’t like it being rebooted.” It hasn’t been a decade since the last season either.

“Prison Break without any of the Scofield brothers just feels wrong.”

“There is no new original content… we have to look into this because it’s getting out of hand,” posted a seventh.

‘Most shows now seem to be reboots or revivals of old shows to create nostalgia and it needs to stop. Is it because of the strike???’

‘Can we just let this go?’ asked another, while a ninth simply wrote: “Cancel now.”

Prison Break lasted five seasons, with the first four airing between 2005 and 2009, before being revived in 2017 for another outing.

Wentworth starred alongside Dominic Purcell in Prison Break, which ran for five seasons.

The gritty drama centered on Michael Schofield’s (Miller) plan to help Lincoln Burrows (Purcell) escape from prison after being sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit.

The fifth season was a sequel set seven years after the original show and saw Michael return from the dead as he fought to regain his identity and take down Poseidon, the person responsible for his disappearance.

The limited series ended with Michael refusing to join the CIA so he could live a normal life with his wife Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies) and son Mike.

In 2020, Miller announced that she would not return for a sixth season because she no longer “wants to play straight characters.”

Taking to Instagram to talk about the trolling he has received on social media about his sexuality, the actor criticized those with ‘Stone Age values’ for attacking him for being gay.

While he receives ‘loving’ and ‘supportive’ messages from fans, Wentworth felt that the negative trolling he had received proved that it was even more important for him to tell queer stories rather than return to the role of Scofield.

He wrote: ‘On a related note… I’m out. From PB. Officially. Not because of the static on social media (although that has focused the issue).

‘I just don’t want to play straight characters. Their stories have been told (and told). So. No more Michael.

‘If you were a fan of the show and were waiting for additional seasons… I understand this is disappointing. I’m sorry.

‘If you’re hot and bothered because you fell in love with a fictional straight man played by a real gay man… That’s your job. -WM’
