Calling Mark a “dear friend”, the royal, who wore a chic burgundy coat, said she got involved with the event because the charity was close to her family’s heart.

“Mark Shand, who started the charity, was a dear friend of mine and what they are doing to save elephants and raise awareness of what is happening is so important for the world to know.

“The legacy they created and the excitement around egg hunts or bamboo elephants in Hyde Park brings elephants to London that I’ve never seen before, bridging that gap with what’s happening in nature, which you might not see every day, can actually come to a city so we can learn more about what’s happening there.

The Easter Egg Hunt and Art Installation is a celebration of art, philanthropy and Easter presented by the Royal and Clarence Court Eggs charity.

Egg sculptures will be scattered around the Chelsea borough from March 20 to April 14.

People will see the large-scale egg sculptures that have been creatively imagined and are each designed by some of the world’s most notable artists in design and architecture, including Anya Hindmarch, Philip Colbert, Charlotte Colbert, Dan Baldwin, James McQueen, Bellerby Globe, Natasha Kumar, Lily Lewis, Allegra Hicks, Rebecca Campbell, Rob Ryan and Rob and Nick Carter.

The charity hopes to raise awareness of critical conservation issues and is on a mission to generate funds for projects on the ground.

The organization was founded in 2003 by Mark, who died in 2014 after slipping and smashing his head while leaving a £1m fundraiser in New York for his elephant charity .
