Ana has accounted for a quarter of all royal engagements in the first six months of 2024.

Princess Anne accounted for a quarter of all royal engagements in the first six months of the year, according to new analysis by MailOnline.

The Princess Royal’s recovery from a suspected head injury over the weekend will mean a forced dismissal for Britain’s busiest royals.

There will also be another drop in the family’s tally of official duties in a year when both the King and Princess of Wales have been receiving cancer treatment.

Anne, 73, is expected to have at least the rest of this week off and has postponed a planned official visit to Canada after suffering a concussion and head injuries.

She is believed to have been injured by a horse’s leg or head while walking around her Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire on Sunday night.

Royal Family commitments in 2024 so far

  • Princess Anne: 252
  • Prince Edward: 143
  • King Charles III: 121
  • Sofia: 118
  • Duke of Gloucester: 89
  • Queen Camilla: 81
  • Prince William: 56
  • Duke of Kent: 47
  • Duchess of Gloucester: 43
  • Princess Alexandra: 1
  • Princess of Wales: 1

In May, MailOnline revealed how Anne had kept the show on tour for the House of Windsor for the first third of the year.

At the time, she accounted for one in three commitments among the family’s 11 working members who perform official duties at taxpayer expense.

That proportion has fallen slightly following the return to public duties of the King and Prince William, who took time off to care for their wife and children when Kate underwent abdominal surgery in January.

But Anne is still miles ahead of any other member of the family and is one of only four royals to have completed more than 100 engagements this year.

So far he has completed 252 commitments, which represents 26 percent of the family’s total. The next busiest is Prince Edward at 143, then the King at 121, followed by Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh at 118.

What is also clear is that Ana, more than anyone, is the royalty who leaves the palaces to travel the country and meet the public.

The King, who has had to be careful not to compromise his immune system, has taken on just 19 per cent of his engagements outside the royal residences, while 84 per cent of Anne’s have been outside the palaces.

How Princess Anne leads royal engagements

Number of Ana’s commitments per month, as a percentage of all actual commitments for that month:

  • January: 39%
  • February: 34%
  • March 26%
  • April 30th%
  • May: 19%
  • June (as of June 23): 21%
  • Total 2024: 26%

‘In the first six months of 2023 it made 255 commitments; To date in 2024 he has made 252.

‘With only four royals making more than 100 engagements so far this year, their absence from the Court Circular will quickly appear in the data.

‘This year their contribution has been greater than usual, as the King and Prince and Princess of Wales have made far fewer commitments than usual.

“As a result, the Princess Royal’s share of the overall royal workload in 2024 is seven percentage points higher than her share in 2023 (19 percent).”

As of June 23, the Royal Family had made 952 commitments recorded in the Court Circular.

But they reached that number of commitments on May 21 of last year, so they are a month behind.

May, normally one of the peak periods in the monarchy’s calendar, was by far the busiest month of the year for the Royal Family.

This is despite numerous engagements having to be canceled due to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s decision on 22 May to call a general election for 4 July.

This year, the royals made 271 engagements in May, almost on par with the 294 they had in 2023.

When asked if he had brought anything for the princess, Sir Tim replied: “Just a few small gifts from home.”

He was wearing an open-necked shirt and jacket, and was carrying what appeared to be a blue cooler bag.

On Monday, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer sent their best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Monday: “The Princess Royal has suffered minor injuries and a concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday afternoon.

‘His Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and rapid recovery.

“The King has been kept closely informed and joins the entire royal family in sending their warmest love and best wishes to the princess for a speedy recovery.”

Although the cause of the injuries is not confirmed, Anne’s medical team has said her head injuries are consistent with a possible impact from a horse’s head or legs.

The princess is understood to have been walking within the protected perimeter of Gatcombe Park when the incident occurred and no other people are believed to have been involved.
