The King will celebrate his birthday by opening two centers designed to save and circulate tons of surplus food.

The opening of the distribution centers will also mark the first anniversary of the Coronation Food Project, an initiative to support charities feeding the nation unwanted food. It is set to open the initiative’s first two Coronation Food Hubs.

Like his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles had two birthdays. The current one takes place today, while the official one falls on the second Saturday in June.

To mark the occasion, the King’s Royal Horse Artillery will fire gun salutes in Green Park and the Honorable Company of Artillery at the Tower of London as part of the army’s traditional celebrations.

Elsewhere, the bells of Westminster Abbey, where the King was crowned in 2023, will be rung.

Queen Camilla is expected to be absent from the king’s birthday engagements today after falling ill.

On Tuesday, the Queen said she was “on the mend” as she made her first public engagement after contracting a “nasty” chest infection.

It comes after King Charles made an entrance fit for a film star when he arrived at the world premiere of Gladiator II in Leicester Square last night in his state-run Bentley limousine.

The royals watched the long-awaited blockbuster, hot on the heels of a glittering reception he and Camilla hosted to celebrate the Film and TV Charity’s centenary.

He looked dapper in a black tuxedo, paired with a bow tie, on the red carpet where the monarch smiled for the cameras.

Earlier in the evening, Charles and his wife chatted with celebrities, including the film’s director Ridley Scott, as they welcomed a host of stars to Buckingham Palace.

While movie legend Denzel Washington, who was expected to attend, did not show up, he is expected to meet the King tonight at the premiere.

Charles will also meet the film’s stars, including Paul Mescal, Connie Nielsen and Pedro Pascal, before sitting down to a screening.

Queen Camilla, who had to withdraw from the event due to a chest infection, previously told Ridley: “I’m so sorry I’m not coming tonight.” I would be coughing throughout the entire process. ‘

In fact, the Queen discreetly coughed several times during her brief appearance at the reception and gratefully drank a glass of water, saying she had felt “absolutely horrible” last week but was definitely “getting better.”

Charles walked the red carpet in Leicester Square without Queen Camilla, who was forced to scale back her engagements due to a chest infection.

At the Odeon Luxe cinema he met the stars of the film, including Washington, 69, Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal and Connie Nielsen, as well as British director Sir Ridley Scott, 86.

He warmly shook hands with Sir Ridley, who seemed to tell him that they would talk after the film.

Oscar-winning actor Washington firmly shook the King’s head when Charles asked him, “Are you playing someone terrible?”

The actor replied: “I’m a lovely man, you’ll see.” The King added: “You’ve been in so many movies, fantastic.”
