Prince Harry has reportedly deepened his relationship with Princess Diana’s side of the family, particularly her uncle Earl Charles Spencer, as he continues his split with King Charles and Prince William.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said GB News that Harry’s ties with the Spencers have strengthened, in part due to their shared involvement in charitable causes. The closer connection became evident during the Invictus Games 10th anniversary celebration in May, which the Spencers attended to show their support.
“Harry is encouraging contacts with the Spencers because they supported the Invictus service at St Paul’s, and we know there is contact there and a closeness that there doesn’t seem to be with the Royal Family, except with Eugenie in Portuguese.” Fitzwilliams said.
The expert highlighted how the tense relationship between Harry and the Royal Family contrasts with his relationship with the Spencers. Fitzwilliams pointed to a recent incident in which King Charles reportedly prioritized meeting David Beckham over Harry during the latter’s brief visit to the UK.
“It didn’t make much sense when they only met for half an hour the first time when he came straight away,” Fitzwilliams said. “When the king meets David Beckham and not Harry, he speaks for himself. “There is a big gap in the Royal Family, and there remains a big gap.”
The Spencers have shown consistent support for Harry’s initiatives, including the Invictus Games, which hold a special place in the Duke of Sussex’s charitable efforts. The renewed closeness with his mother’s family offers Harry a sense of connection amid his ongoing struggles with the Royal Family.
Despite tensions within the monarchy, Harry’s bond with Princess Eugenie remains intact, and Fitzwilliams notes their continued contact and camaraderie.
