According to Deborah Brutchey, LA Works executive director, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle surprised a teen with a Zoom mentoring session.
The Duke, 36, and the Duchess of Sussex, 39, marked International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month by urging others to “ act of compassion. ”
The couple went to their Archewell Foundation website and wrote, ‘We know that the world is asking more and more of women every day – as wage earners, leaders, educators, carers and more. In honor of International Women’s Day, let’s unleash a wave of genuine acts of compassion for the women in your life and in your community. ‘
One of the suggestions was to ‘guide a teenage girl navigating her high school computer’ – and the royal couple decided to take it personally.
“She had this moment of surprise and excitement when she spoke to the Duke and Duchess,” said Deborah Brutchey, LA Works executive director. PEOPLE“She knew them, she knew a lot – she had followed Meghan’s story quite a bit, so she was very excited to have the opportunity to talk to them.”

And the royal fan, who was ‘inspired’ by the couple’s ‘compassion’, remained ‘moved’ after the surprise phone call.
“It was really important to her because they saw her potential in a few short minutes, which actually really undid the damage previously done by a former teacher’s doubt,” Deborah explained.
‘It was just amazing how they were able to connect and how their compassion, in just a short conversation, has really made an impact and will inspire her forever.’
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also gave the royal fan some words of wisdom on how to overcome the daily challenges. Pictured during their interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired in the US on March 7

Deborah added, “The conversation they had was actually about how to overcome challenges in your life? And how do you stay true to your values?
“Things that are so recognizable to young girls, but also so public in what the Duke and Duchess went through.”
After noticing that the teenager had sunflowers in her room, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly sent her a bouquet with an encouraging note.
