Prince Harry and Meghan Markle issue a new statement amid Netflix documentary backlash

Meghan Markle & Prince Harry denied quitting royal duties and emigrated in the US for privacy. This was as they justified their Netflix documentary that documented their most intimate moments during their courtship and marriage.

The Duke and Duchess have shared many photos and footage of themselves and their children Archie, Lilibet, and footage from their first dates. There was even footage of Harry proposing to a friend, which Meghan apparently ‘live-streamed’ to a friend.

The couple handed over 15 hours of personal video they had recorded in the early months of 2020, according to director Liz Garbus, who dodged questions about how much control the Sussexes had over the shows – calling the completed series a ‘collaboration’.

Experts claim that their decision to abdicate royal duties was a sign that they wanted to live privately. Harry stated that Megxit would help him and his family “into what I hope is a quieter lifestyle”. The couple has also launched a number of high-profile privacy court cases in Britain.

The Netflix documentary is opened by the Duke of Sussex’s airport monologue, which he gave when he emigrated. This raises many questions about the time they first decided on filming it.

Harry &Amp; Meghan Docuseries' Video Diary With Meghan

Meghan On What She Says Is Her First Video Diary Entry

Meghan also appears in several video diary segments in the first episode, often on the brink of tears.

Ashley Hansen, their spokesperson, has dismissed the notion that Megxit was about privacy and said instead The New York Times: ‘Their announcement announcing their decision not to step back mentions no privacy and reiterates that they want to continue their public roles and public duties.

“Any suggestion that this is not the case highlights a key point in this series. They choose to share their story on their terms and yet, the tabloid media has created a completely false narrative that permeates both press coverage and public opinion. They have the facts right in front of their faces’.

The Netflix series raises questions about when they intended to make a documentary.

Harry’s opening monologue was him staring at his phone from Heathrow Airport’s VIP Windsor Suite. This was as Harry and Meghan were about to end their royal duties and emigrate to North America.

Ms Garbus, who replaced Garrett Bradley as documentarian, said that Harry was in the Windsor Suite, processing the fact that he is leaving the royal family for only the second time in his life.

“Then, there was another video with Meghan at home, fresh out the shower, her hair in towel, no makeup, and processing on her end how their lives might have been.

“It’s very personal, raw and powerful and it made me appreciate their incredible weight. It confirmed the decision I made to explore how this historic break came about.

Harry’s memoir Spare will be out in January, and it is certain that privacy issues will be back in the forefront.

Harry spoke at a charity event in London hours after Megxit was announced in January 2020. He said that he had made the decision for his family to ‘take a leap forward into what I hope is a quieter lifestyle’.

Before Privacy rows dominated major events like Megxit

They delayed the announcement of Archie’s birth in May 2019 so they could ‘celebrate privately, as a new family’ Dickie Arbiter, who was the Queen’s former spokesman, stated at the time that Archie’s arrival was a complete disaster. The secrecy made a mockery out of the whole thing.

Oprah told Meghan in 2021 that everyone has a basic right of privacy. Basic. We are not discussing anything that anyone else would not expect. She denied that Megxit was about privacy. She pointed to their statement, which talked about financial independence for the royals in order to ’embark upon the next chapter in our lives.

It was discovered that the couple had begun filming themselves and giving interviews back in March 2020. This continued right up until August 2018, just weeks before the Queen’s passing.

A source said: ‘This was all being filmed while both the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen – Harry’s grandparents – were suffering from serious ill-health and in the last few months of their lives.

“They even came over from mark Her Majesty’s Jubilee, while she was collaborating with the filmmakers, but not telling her what they were doing.

“That’s shameful, and cowardly. Many people are happy that the late Queen isn’t here to see it.

The pair, whose limited series was released on the streaming giant at 8am this morning in the UK, self-shot a number of intimate ‘video diaries’ for the show.

But their timing suggests that they were intended to be a tell-all document. This is a dramatic departure from the September 2020 announcement by Netflix.

In fact, the Duke’s introductory monologue, which he is seen staring down at his phone from Heathrow Airport’s Windsor Suite, is shot just before Megxit 2020.

It’s one of few dated self-shot clips, but it suggests that the couple was already thinking about telling their story.

They were seen as working Royals at the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey on March 9, just days before.

Half a year later a rumoured £88million deal with the streamer to talk about their lives was made public.

MailOnline was told by Richard Fitzwilliams, a royal commentator: “There have been rumours that they were planning on exploiting their royal status early.

“To my knowledge, nothing is confirmed as fact.” However, it is believed that Oprah wanted to interview them when they were senior working royals.

MailOnline spoke with Norman Baker, an ex-MP and Royal commentator. He said: “It could well signify either a long-term strategy to do something, or just accumulation of stock footage.

“They clearly wanted it at some time. Their knowledge about the Royal Family ended when they left the country.

They are essentially mining the past, not the future.

‘They got £88million from Netflix so it’s very clear that now want their pound of flesh.’

The airport clip is shown several times during the first episode.

Harry explains it as follows: “Hi, so now we’re here on Tuesday, Wednesday the something of March. We’ve just completed our two weeks.

“Our final push, the list stint of Royal engagements.

Meghan is then seen in Vancouver (Canada) on a video similar to the one above.

Harry’s monologue then is re-told with him saying: “This isn’t about our story, it’s always been so much larger than us.

“No one knows the whole truth. We know all the truth, the institution has all the truth, and the media has all the truth because they have been there.

“And I believe anyone else in my situation would do the same thing.”

Later, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stated that a friend advised them to document this particular time in their lives.

He “A friend suggested that I document myself through this period of the time.”

“With all of the misinformation going out there, especially regarding us and our departure, it seemed like a very sensible idea.

Meghan then appears to be speaking into her phone camera, asking if this is the first time she has filmed a video diary. She replies: “I don’t know. Is this the first video diary. We have talked about it. We keep talking because we know that while it may not make sense at the moment, it will in the future.

It is unclear when she made this, but she is showing off her wedding ring. The context suggests it was at Frogmore Cottage.

The clip shows Harry, who is wearing his neckerchief, looking at the camera and trying to remember which day it is. It is not known when it was taken.

He says:  ‘So we’re here, err, Friday the 17th of April or something’.
