Prince William appears in 1993, aged 11, wearing a long coat at the Sandringham Church service, accompanied by his father, Prince Charles.

Eagle-eyed royal watchers have once again noticed the resemblance between Prince George and his father, Prince William.

It comes after the royal made an appearance at the Christmas Day service at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham on December 25.

William attended the special annual event at the Norfolk estate with his wife, the Princess of Wales, 42, and their three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six.

Remarks about the resemblance between the Prince of Wales and his eldest son came after George wore a long coat to service, a style similar to what William sported at a similar age.

George, 10, put on the longer coat over his tie and dark trousers and a white shirt for the first time, after usually wearing a jacket to the annual event.

His appearance mirrored that of William in 1993, when, at age 11, he wore a longer formal coat (following the short, more casual jacket he had worn the previous year).

Royal fans have commented on numerous occasions how similar George looks to his father as a child.

Earlier this month, the future king, 10, joined his family for his mother Kate Middleton’s Together at Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey.

Photos of the Prince of Wales at age 10 show the same smile and hair that young George now sports.

And the similarities are even more striking when the two wear similar outfits, like Prince William’s long coat and pants from 1993 and Prince George’s ensemble from 2024.

As well as the eldest Welsh boy donning a stylish long coat for the annual church service at Sandringham, the youngest, six-year-old Prince Louis, also opted for the same stylish outfit.

It is not the first time the young royals have been photographed in a longer coat, but their appearance marked a departure from their Christmas Day ensembles of previous years, leading to comparisons between William and George.

Each year, members of the Royal Family attend the service at Sandringham Church.

Before entering, those present, including the King and Queen among others, posed for a photograph outside the church.

The Reverend Canon Dr Paul Rhys Williams greeted them, before everyone entered, where the national anthem was sung, before the first hymn: O Come, All Ye Faithful.

Each year, the service marks a major event for royal fans, some of whom even began waiting the night before, hoping to catch a glimpse of members of The Firm as they walked to the church.

Charles, 76, and Queen Camilla, 77, walked the short distance from Sandringham House to St Mary Magdalene Church, among a crowd of well-wishers.

They were, of course, joined by the Welsh, as well as the Princess Royal and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

Both Queen Camilla and Princess Catherine sported emerald green coats as they walked with King Charles and Prince William.

Catherine’s coat was designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.

The crowds were presented with copies of the order of the service, held at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, led by the rector, the Right Reverend Canon, Dr Paul Rhys Williams.

Hymns included Oh, come all ye faithful!, O little city of Bethlehem, as the shepherds watched over their flocks by night! and Listen! The herald angels sing. The service also included the Lord’s Prayer.

Prince William said last week that he was looking forward to spending Christmas with 45 members of his family “all in one room” as he attended a seasonal family event for the 1st Battalion of the Mercian Regiment, in his role as colonel-in-chief, in Bulford, Wiltshire.
