Lady Louise Windsor finished second in the novice pony class at the Sandringham Driving Trials, supported by her doting father, Prince Edward.

It was Louise’s first time competing in Sunday’s event, where she received an impressive silver medal.

Just two weeks ago, 20-year-old Louise was waving to crowds from a horse-drawn carriage during the Trooping the Colour parade – but now she’s sitting behind the wheel.

The Sandringham trials began in 1982 by Louise’s grandfather, Prince Philip, who wanted to bring one of his favorite sports to one of his favorite places and it always takes place the weekend after Royal Ascot.

The eldest son of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Edward and Sofia, prefers to stay out of the spotlight when it comes to attending royal events and chooses not to use his HM title.

At her driving event on Sunday, Louise was supported by her father, who watched enthusiastically from the sidelines as his daughter competed in the driving event with one of the Queen’s ponies.

Louise, who is 16th in line to the throne, wore a smart tweed blazer with a shirt and tie underneath. She wore beige and orange stitched gloves, in addition to her jockey hat and cream-colored riding pants.

After receiving a blue ribbon for coming second in the driving competition, Louise received a warm hug from her father, who proudly embraced his daughter from the carriage seat.

On the first day of the Sandringham driving tests on Friday, the 20-year-old royal was accompanied by her friend Felix da Silva-Clamp, who supported her in her first competition.

The couple are believed to have met at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where Lady Louise was studying English literature.

Pictures on Facebook show the pair taking a selfie and posing together at a St Andrews student drama party.

Da Silva-Clamp, wearing gray chinos and a blue jacket, was seen arriving at the event with Lady Louise’s mother Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, 59, who was dressed casually in khaki skinny jeans, a khaki coat and a light blue sweater.

Together, they watched Lady Louise perform in dressage and then Felix accompanied her for a ride around the carriage driving circuit.

Lady Louise, the King’s niece, has been seen several times competing in carriage driving competitions, after she made her debut in the sport three years ago, aged 17.

Her passion for carriages arose from the late Prince Philip, who loved the sport and encouraged her to take up it. Felipe had started practicing it at the age of 50, after no longer being able to practice her favorite sport, polo.

He shared a special bond with Lady Louise due to sport and left her his carriage when he died in 2021.

The young royal paid tribute to her grandfather’s legacy by taking part in a carriage driving event in April last year, on the weekend of the anniversary of his death.
