The count and countess of Wessex have taken a break from their royal duties and have left for a family vacation in the exclusive Swiss ski resort of St. Moritz.
Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, both 55, appeared in an excellent mood as they spent time with their children Lady Louise Windsor, 16, and James, Viscount Severn, 12, on the slopes during the weekend.
Half-time a trip to the exclusive resort, where the star-studded wedding of Dasha Zhukova and billionaire ship magnate Stavros Niarchos was recently held, has become a family tradition for the Wessexes, all of whom are experienced skiers.
Neither Sophie nor Edward have planned royal engagements for this week, so they think they can stay in Switzerland for the rest of the week before flying back to the UK on time to get the kids to go to school on Monday.
The beautiful family pictures will bring much joy to the queen, who was hit today when her cousin, David Linley, announced that he was divorced from his wife Serena, just days after the divorce of grandson Peter Phillips and wife Autumn was made public.

The family ski trip will be a welcome break for Sophie and Edward, who had a busy start to the year after the departure of Megxit and Prince Andrew. The couple is supposed to be in the race to take more responsibility in light of the seismic retirement.
Last month, the couple were called to organize a Buckingham Palace reception with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in the absence of the Queen, Prince Charles, and the Duchess of Cornwall.
But every thought of their busy schedule seemed far away from the royal couple when they went up the slopes on Sunday.
The family went to the bottom of the mountain in black 4x4s and put on their helmets and glasses before they went on the chairlift.
The countess of Wessex wrapped himself against the cold in a black jacket and contrasting white trousers with a red stripe along the side of the leg.
She added an elegant splash of color to the ski ensemble with a chic printed blue silk scarf around her neck.

In the meantime, Prince Edward distinguished himself from the group in a vibrant red Colmar jacket and black pants. He shared a chairlift up the mountain with his 12-year-old son, James, Viscount Severn, before going up the slope with his daughter Lady Louise by his side.
The royal children, often praised for their exemplary manners and behavior, looked just as comfortable as their parents in the snow.
Lady Louise, dressed in a navy jacket and fitted with black pants, seemed particularly excited to be back in the snow.
Her younger brother James, who is rarely in the spotlight, proved that he had serious ski references by putting on a red and black jacket from the chic Spyder label.

St Moritz is something of a celebrity for die-hard skiers, visited by John Travolta, Liz Hurley and Ivana Trump, as well as a series of royals.
Princess Beatrice and her fiancée Edo were recently seen at the resort prior to the wedding of good friend Dasha Zhukova with billionaire ship magnate Stavros Niarchos.
Also joining the royals skiing were royal Pierre Casiraghi of Monaco, grandson of Grace Kelly and art dealer Vito Schnabel from New York.
