A desperate search is underway for a surfer who disappeared in the water after getting into difficulty.
The man went missing at Surfers Point in Prevelley, about three hours south of Perth, at 4.35pm on Friday.
Another surfer saw the man, believed to be in his 40s, and noted that he needed help but was unable to reach him due to the difficult conditions.
“A number of police and emergency services were deployed to the area and a preliminary search was carried out in the water and beach area,” a police spokesperson said.
The man went missing at Surfers Point in Prevelley, about three hours south of Perth, at 4.35pm on Friday.
“At this time the surfer has not been located.”
On Saturday, local marine rescue teams and jet skis joined the search before it was stopped around noon due to poor conditions.
The location is Known internationally as one of the locations of the Margaret River Pro, which took place over 10 days in April.
This is not the first time a surfing incident has been reported in the area.
WA surfing stalwart Frank Hayter died following a fatal surfing incident at Surfers Point on August 21, 2021.
Other surfers helped free the 65-year-old man’s body from the rope that had become trapped on the reef. ABC News reported at the time.

Hayter was a much-loved figure in the Margaret River surfing community and had founded the Scarborough Boardriders Club more than 30 years ago.
He won several national and state titles throughout his career.
Surfer’s Point remains closed and the public is advised to avoid the area.
