The headmistress of a prestigious all-girls secondary school has sent a confidential letter claiming one of her students has been allegedly indecently assaulted by a member of staff who has now been charged.

In a confidential letter obtained by Daily Mail Australia on Thursday, the principal of Roma Mitchell Secondary College wrote to all parents and carers of the school’s 500 students.

In a letter, “I regret to inform you that a member of staff has been accused of indecent assault against a child,” director Toni Carellas attempted to reassure parents.

“The staff member cannot perform any child-related work and has been ordered not to attend school,” he wrote.

In reporting that the staff member, whom Ms. Carellas does not identify as a teacher or any other type of school worker, has left the school, she underscores the need to “protect the identity of the victim.”

South Australian Police confirmed a man has been charged with two counts of indecent assault in connection with the school.
