Every month a few people win a million pounds in the Premium Bonds draw, but while you’ve memorized your birthday and probably the date of Christmas and Boxing Day, you also know when Premium Bonds Prize Day falls – the date on which the winning numbers have been announced?

You could say the first of every month, but that’s not the whole story.

The lucky Premium Bonds numbers from £1,000 to £1 million will be published on the first working day of the month.

That means if the first one is a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, you’ll have to wait up to three days before hearing any good news.

Since the turn of the century, This is Money’s Premium Bonds Winning Numbers tables have been published on that first working day – a full day before NS&I (formerly National Savings and Investments) updates its own tables Premium Bond Prize Checker.

And with the well-documented problems reported by bondholders this year when trying to access their NS&I accounts, savers are turning to us in droves.

As an added bonus, our tables are interactive, allowing you to filter by location, the value of your holdings, the date of purchase and of course the amount you won – without having to know your bondholder number.

Premium Bonds are a tax-free, government-backed savings program that allows savers to withdraw up to 50,000 bonds against a digital random price selector called Ernie – Electronic Random Number Indicator Equipment.

Each bond costs £1 and entitles the owner to one entry into the draw. The maximum asset is £50,000.

Prices range from £25 to £1 million.

The winners of the two monthly jackpots are apparently personally informed of their luck, but there is very little evidence of this.

As of March 2024, the prize fund, the amount of the total fund paid out in prizes, will be 4.4 percent, having fallen from a 24-year high of 4.65 percent.

The odds of winning a prize are 21,000 to 1.

Here are the dates of the prize draw announcements for the coming year.
