With both Villa and Newcastle out of the FA Cup, leaders of the league believe the weekend of January 23-24 is the ideal time to play that game.
The league was also debating whether to grant Villa’s request to postpone Everton’s game. It has already been delayed by 24 hours from Saturday to Sunday, but Villa has yet to return to their Bodymoor Heath training ground, which was closed after 14 positive cases were confirmed last Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Southampton’s delayed FA Cup third-round tie against Shrewsbury has been moved to next Tuesday, with Saints’ Premier League clash with Leeds canceled the following day.
The cup match was scheduled for January 9, but was postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak at the League One club. It now starts on Tuesdays at 8pm and airs on BT Sport. The winners will receive Arsenal in the fourth round.
