Predator was in prison for 16 years for raping mother of two while her children listened

A predator has been in prison for 16 years after following a mother of two and raping her in the hall while her children listened.

John Ward, 24, was imprisoned on April 24 in Minshull Street Crown Court, Rochdale.

He followed the 28-year-old victim’s home on September 7 last year after meeting him drinking a bottle of wine while walking the dog with her youngest child.

He stormed into her house and forced herself on her in the hallway, while her daughters aged five and nine hid behind the living room door.

The kids tried to help their mom, but Ward slammed the door and yelled, “I’m just talking to Mom!”

He then raped the woman and had him give him oral sex before fleeing when his male accomplice approached him.

In a statement to the police, the victim said, “These two men destroyed my peace of mind. They caused so much trauma and suffering and I moved with my kids because I couldn’t take it back there after what happened.

“I could never walk into that house again without revisiting that day’s events. I could never settle down without shrinking at the sound of someone at the door.

“At first we stayed with a family member, but we needed a house of my own so my daughters could get used to a routine again. However, I am still on the waiting list for a permanent property. None of us feel comfortable and we are frustrated and upset.

“I’ve been through such a desperate time and had thoughts of suicide that have now disappeared, but only with the help of my friends and family who supported me during my worst moments.

“I have sleep problems and often have flashbacks. At night it can be really difficult when the kids have gone to bed and the house is quiet – leaving me alone with my thoughts.

“I’m nervous about going out and constantly looking at my back, scared when someone comes after me. Even though I know the men are in prison, I still panic when I see someone who looks like them and I have to walk in a different direction to get away.

“I’m learning to push my fears to the back of my head, but I still panic at loud noises or lofty voices and have had four months off from work. My dog now lives with my Nan because I can’t walk with it, because it all started when I was walking my dog. I never want to see these two men again or hear their voices after what they did to me and my kids. ‘

The victim left her home in Rochdale, Greater Manchester on the day of the attack and lived in temporary housing for another seven months.

Kirkholt Ward, Rochdale, admitted two charges of rape and sexual assault.

His accomplice Aaron Farrell, also 24, from Middleton, near Rochdale, admitted that he twisted justice after seeing the fingerprints wiped off the woman’s front door and spent 21 months in prison.

Michael Lavery prosecution said, “Ward was in front of her and Farrell was behind and they made comments about her” good looks. ” They asked if she was single and called her a “MILF” (mom I’d like to fk).

Ward asked her for a kiss, and Farrell repeated, “Give him a kiss – nothing will happen. ‘

She declined, but they continued to harass her and fearing they had a knife, she tried to kiss Ward on the cheek in an attempt to appease him. But he turned his face and kissed her on the mouth, demanded another kiss, then turned to the child and said, “I am your new father.” ‘

Ward then exposed herself and asked the woman, “Do you want this?” before the woman fled into her house with her dog and child.

Ward and Farrell entered her house for the first time, but left when the woman told them to leave.

She locked her door and closed her curtains.

The men came back and came in when she opened the door thinking she was someone else.

Mr. Lavery said, “He closed the front door behind him and told her he was” imagining the f … k. “The woman’s children were in the lounge and hysterical. He pushed the woman against the wall and kissed her.

The woman tried to move around him, but Ward pushed her and she fell backwards on the stairs. Then he pulled down her training pants and made several attempts to penetrate her and put his hand over her mouth to keep her still.

The children were screaming behind the hatch door.

“She described that she couldn’t scream or scream or do anything and she felt totally numb.

“All she could hear was her children screaming at her and she couldn’t come to them and comfort them. The eldest daughter would later tell her grandfather that she heard her mother scream and cry and told Ward to “get rid of her.” ‘

After the men left, the woman called relatives for help.

While speaking to the police, she saw Ward and Farrell sitting outside on the sidewalk.

Police arrived and arrested the two men after a chase.

The woman identified Ward from a line-up, and the court heard that he had previously been convicted of assault, battery and car theft.

Defender Anthony Morris said Ward was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine at the time and had little recollection of the incident.

Morris said, “He does understand the complainant’s trauma and has empathy for her. He revives in a sense almost every day that he cannot believe he was capable of it. ‘

Judgment by Judge John Potter described the rape as “depraved and cruel,” and gave Ward an extended prison sentence.

Judge Potter said, “During her terrible and terrible ordeal, the victim could hear her children scream and cry while they knew their mother was being attacked on the other side of the living room door.

“She was terrified – not only because of this terrible sexual abuse by you, but also because of her helplessness and powerlessness to break out of your grip and protect herself and her children.

“The torment and fear she was experiencing at the moment is unimaginable. You treated your victim as an object to satisfy bad sexual desires. You subjected her to a vicious, persistent and determined sexual assault in the sanctuary of her own home in the sound and at the sight of her two young children.

Those children were extremely frightened and terrified as the events of that day unfolded in their own homes. This level of depravity is from a level on the most serious side of the scale in every way. ‘
