The final tournament of the European League in Flensburg could come up with a German final despite the failure of host SG Flensburg-Handewitt. This was the result of the draw for the semi-finals by the European Handball Federation EHF on Thursday.
According to this, Füchse Berlin will meet Montpellier HB from France on May 27, while Frisch Auf Göppingen, as the second German participant in the final round, will compete with Flensburg conqueror BM Granollers from Spain.
“With Montpellier, we got the toughest draw. They are currently also playing for the championship in France,” said Füchse coach Jaron Siewert in a statement: “We’ve played a knockout game against them before, narrowly losing away, clearly at home won. So we know about their quality.” Nevertheless, at the end of May they will “give everything to get into the final,” said the coach of the current second in the Bundesliga.
The exact schedule for the preliminary round and the final game on May 28th in the Flensburg campus hall should be determined in a timely manner. While the Foxes are playing for their third triumph, Göppingen could crown themselves as record champions of the competition, including the previous version of the EHF Cup, with their fifth success. Flensburg surprisingly failed in the quarterfinals due to Granollers.
