Barangaroo seafront restaurant Cirrus Dining has quietly closed its doors for good

A waterfront fine dining restaurant has quietly closed its doors for good, with rising rent costs being blamed for its shock closure.

Cirrus Dining, The Bentley Restaurant Group’s seafood restaurant in Barangaroo in Sydney’s CBD, has ceased trading after eight years of service.

The two-hat restaurant had its last service on September 1, coinciding with the end of its lease contract.

“This is a bittersweet decision for us,” Cirrus co-owners Brent Savage and Nick Hildebrandt said in a statement.

‘Although we wanted to extend our lease, we were unable to reach an agreement with our new landlord. “While this is disappointing, it has opened the door to new opportunities that will be announced soon.”

The co-owners said they were “immensely proud” of what the team had achieved over the years.

“We feel like we’re on top of things, with two spots in the Good Food Guide, as well as currently holding the title of Australian Wine List of the Year,” the co-owners said.

“We are very grateful to our team, past and present, who have been instrumental to our success, and to our loyal customers and suppliers, who have made Cirrus Dining what it is today.”

Diners were devastated when they heard the news of the establishment’s closure.

“What a shame, such a wonderful restaurant is closing… Cirrus will be sorely missed,” said one.

‘Wow. I’ve had so many stellar meals there. I felt like I was alone in the realm of good seafood, a very special restaurant. One I will miss and a deep loss to Sydney. I wish you all the best and thank you from the bottom of my heart for bringing us Cirrus,” another shared.

‘Eight years is a good time. I only have fabulous memories of meals there,” one added.

Cirrus joins a number of popular Sydney restaurants that have hung up their restaurateur hat amid rising costs in recent months.

The restaurant with two hats had its last service on September 1, after eight years of service.

French restaurant Bistrot 916 in Potts Point announced it will have its final service on November 3, as it will be demolished due to construction work in the area.

“As we dim the lights and wait for the wrecking ball to approach, we invite you to an evening of final celebration,” the establishment said.

“We would like to once again thank our extraordinary staff past and present and our incredible customers, merci oui oui.”

Other hospitality businesses that have closed their doors include Yok Thai in Neutral Bay, Warike in Surry Hills and Big Poppa’s in Darlinghurst.
