But a new report from potential home buyers shows that these popular trends can be serious turns when it comes to buying a new home.

More than 1,000 UK homeowners were surveyed by the trade show website Rated People for their annual Home Improvement Trends report, and the results reveal the characteristics most likely to deter potential buyers when it comes time to sell.

Dark gray window frames and dark gray kitchen units also appeared on the list, with buyers fearing they would make homes look too dark.

And while original sliding windows can add charm and character to a home, they don’t impress potential buyers.

Adrienne Minster, CEO of Rated People, commented, “We know from the many completed projects in our community that dark and bold colors can look great whether used on walls, ceilings, kitchen cabinets or window frames.

“But when it comes to sales, it’s a good idea to keep up to date with the features buyers are looking for, because the trends that added value just two to three years ago can now spell an impairment.”

Original sliding windows may be charming, but they deter buyers. Jen said, “It’s best to make sure your windows are in good condition to show that they don’t incur direct costs. Give them a new coat of paint and make sure they’re all in good shape too – by reassuring your buyers that old features make your home more attractive, you can close the deal. ‘
