Air fryers sold by Best Buy are being recalled over fears they will cause fires or burn users — and in some cases cut people when the glass shatters.

The recall affects six models manufactured in China by Insignia – three regular fryers, one double basket model and two air fryers.

The four fryers can overheat, causing the handles to melt or break. The overheating can also pose fire and burn hazards, officials said.

The two air fryers can also overheat – and when they do, the glass on the door can shatter. This poses a ‘fire, burn and laceration hazard’ – the latter meaning that the glass can cut people when it shatters.

About 187,400 of the Insignia units are being recalled in the United States and another 99,900 in Canada. Scroll down to the right for model numbers and pictures of each model.

Owners of fryers made by Ninja, the best-selling brands in the US, will be relieved that it’s not one of theirs.

Owners should immediately stop using the recalled Insignia fryers.

They can visit this link for instructions on how to submit pictures of their device, model number, proof of purchase and also how to destroy it.

Customers can get a refund by check or Best Buy store credit.

They get the amount on their receipt if they still have it, or if not the average sales price over the past three years.

Best Buy has received 24 reports of glass overheating, melting or shattering.

This includes six cases of air fryers catching fire. No personal injury or damage to property has been reported.

They were sold at Best Buy stores nationwide and online at www.bestbuy.com, www.eBay.com and third-party sellers from November 2021 through November 2023 for between $32 and $180.

More details can be found here on the official website of the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Anyone affected can also call Best Buy at 800-566-7498 from 7am to 6pm CT Monday through Friday.

It is not uncommon for air fryers to be recalled. Two million Cosori air fryers were recalled in February 2023 after their wiring connections caused hundreds of them to overheat and catch fire.

Airfryers sold by major retailers such as Walmart, Target and Kohl’s were recalled last December after three people reported being burned using them.

The voluntary recall affected two models of air fryers manufactured by Empower Brands, which are sold under the name PowerXL

How to identify if your airfryer is affected
