Superstar musician Robbie Williams has flown under the radar of fans in London simply by wearing the jersey of the AFL team for which he acts as global ambassador.
The chart-topping artist is a mad Carlton supporter and provided pre-game entertainment at the 2022 AFL grand final.
Since then, he has taken to watching Blues games and celebrating their victories on social media, and even wrote a song about the team to celebrate their victory over Sydney in last year’s knockout final.
However, donning the Blues guernsey made the A-Lister anonymous in the eyes of passers-by in London.
On Tuesday he posted a series of videos on Instagram showing him and his wife Ayda in London with the former Take That singer sporting his Carlton jumper with ‘ROBBIE’ emblazoned on the back in an effort to see if people will recognize him in the stranger. attire.
The pair talk about the experiment they’re doing before they go for a walk and Williams says, “You know what I want to happen…if people say, ‘What is that?'” and then they turn around and Robbie says in the back, and they say, you know it’s me.
His next clip shows Williams sitting on a bench outside London’s Design Museum as several people walk past him, completely unaware that they are right next to one of the world’s biggest stars.
A bewildered Williams even nods to a man passing by pushing a stroller and receives only a polite nod in return.
In the third clip, he finally reaches the finish line when a restaurant worker greets him with a ‘Bongiorno!’ -but then admits that he only found out who he is because he saw the first post of him wearing the Carlton shirt.
Several Londoners walked past Williams without recognizing him in his Carlton Blues AFL shirt, leaving the star a bit starstruck (pictured).
Williams hoped people would eventually find out who he was despite the unusual peak.
The superstar has been a big fan of Carlton since performing in the 2022 grand final and wears his Blues jersey with pride.
‘I can’t believe no one recognized you!’ says the woman.
Williams then takes a selfie with a fan and her daughters as Ayda says, “There you go, it’s happening, boo!” before two more Londoners asked for a photo, prompting the star to say: “Back in the game!” and ‘Jackpot!’
The 50-year-old, who was first gifted a Blues shirt by his Australian musician friend Tim Metcalfe in 2012, is hoping Carlton makes it to this year’s grand final as they are currently second in the standings.
When they beat Swans and Demons in the final last season, he couldn’t contain his joy on social media.
“Every time, every time, every time I’ve seen the Swans,” Williams sang to her 2.8 million followers.
“The swans have lost to everyone.”
He then sang another song, to the tune of Australian star John Paul Young’s smash hit Love is in the Air, about Carlton star Tom De Koning.
“De Koning is in the air, everywhere I look,” Williams sings.
‘De Koning is everywhere, leaving bodies on the ground.
And he’s better than his brother, even better than his father.
“There is only one Thomas de Koning, and he is the best we have ever had.
De Koning is in the air! Of, of, of, of, of, of.’
He then broke out into an impromptu football-style chant.
The first person to recognize the star (right) admitted they only saw him because they had seen the Instagram post showing him in his AFL team.
Williams is shown dancing in celebration after he was finally recognized by music fans.
He made sure to wear a strip with his name on the back (pictured) to give bewildered fans an idea of who they were looking at.
The former Take That star (pictured with former AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan) has followed the Blues closely since putting on an impressive show in the 2022 grand final.
‘The city is ours, the city is ours. A team in Melbourne, the city is ours!’ —Williams bellowed.
‘I can not believe it!’
Earlier this year he made a cheeky request to coach Michael Voss after Carlton’s incredible comeback victory over Brisbane in the first round, when many fans were wearing the suits made famous by Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi in The Blues Brothers.
“I want one of those tops,” he said after watching Carlton kick the winner.
‘After all, I’m the global ambassador, so I need one of these t-shirts.
‘Can I have one of those blouses, please, Vossy? Let’s go guys!’
