Video footage taken by a person nearby showed dozens of police officers pinning the man to the ground.

Officers were seen surrounding the man near an ambulance as emergency services blocked access to the bridge.

Pedestrians were ordered to clear the area as dozens of onlookers watched the dramatic police operation unfold.

Sections of the bridge have been cordoned off with several police vehicles parked on the bridge.
