A police officer shot and killed an armed suspect about a mile from the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

The Columbus, Ohio, police officer who fatally shot the man was in the city to help with heightened security for the event following the attempted assassination of Donald Trump on Saturday.

The shooting occurred near North 14th and West Vliet streets, outside the security perimeter, according to local reports.

Witnesses said ATM4 Officers shot the man in the back as he crossed the street in front of a homeless encampment where he lived.

A fight broke out between two men armed with knives.

The shooting is not believed to be related to the convention, but law enforcement is on high alert following Trump’s shooting.
