Police searching for two-year-old Emile unearth concrete slabs on property near family home in French village – possible breakthrough in case compared to BBC’s The Missing
Police investigating the disappearance of a two-year-old French boy who disappeared two months ago have renewed their search this week, unearthing a large slab of concrete at a neighbor’s house.
Emile Soleil, whose parents live in Marseille, disappeared without a trace on July 8 from Haut-Vernet, an Alpine village south of Grenoble where he was staying with his grandparents.
A major search operation was launched involving 800 gendarmes, firefighters, volunteers, helicopters, drones with thermal cameras and sniffer dogs to try to find the child.
After an apparent pause in the investigation, detectives have turned their attention to a house just a few hundred meters from the family home, reports BFM DICI.
They reportedly used a jackhammer to destroy a concrete slab on the property, which is believed to have been placed during work carried out by a construction company this summer.

French media reports that shortly after Emile’s disappearance, a sonar device detected an anomaly on the slab.
Searches have since been carried out in the area and the mayor of Vernet told BFMTV that it was a “simple check” by the police so that the owner could finish work on the house.
Last month, Mayor Francois Balique speculated that one or more adults must have taken Emile out of town.
He told CNews: “When we see that we have not found Emile in the city, it means that he has necessarily been transferred.” Can not it be a different way. [He] They could only have been moved by adults, by one or more adults.

After days of exhaustive searches over the summer, a spokesman said: “Either the body was hidden after an accident or it was removed.”

It is presumed that the boy was kidnapped, but it turns out that a driver ran him over and threw him unconscious in the trunk of a car, believing him dead.
Some have speculated that Emile may have been hit by a car on the small, inconspicuous country roads of Haut Vernet, and that His panicked killer may have taken his body after accidentally running him over.
The prosecutor had previously stressed that “no element characterizes a crime that could be at the origin of this disappearance.”

The police have carried out searches in around twenty houses in the small Alpine village, but to no avail.
French investigators suspended their initial search after five days of excavations that “turned up nothing.”
Remy Avon, prosecutor of Digne-les-Baines, saying that 100 researchers had searched 97 hectares, while volunteers came to cover more ground.
