Following the tragic death of Matthew Perry, authorities believe “several people” should be charged.
When the Friends star died at the age of 54 last year and the autopsy was later released, Los Angeles police began an investigation into the circumstances of her overdose.
In a report of People Published Tuesday, a law enforcement investigative source said the investigation is now “nearing its conclusion.”
The source did not clarify who the “multiple people” potentially facing charges are, adding that any future action will ultimately be determined by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The actor died of an overdose on October 28, 2023 in the hot tub of his home, according to a previous report from the Los Angeles County medical examiner.

His death was ruled accidental and the autopsy report released in May showed the actor died from the acute effects of ketamine.
Contributing factors were cited such as drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine, a prescription medication often used to treat people with opioid addiction.
It was later reported that at the time of his death, Perry was receiving ketamine infusion therapy.
However, in December of last year, a medical expert speculated to Page Six that the actor had “probably” obtained ketamine illegally for “recreational use.”
Although Perry was receiving ketamine treatment for anxiety and depression at the time of his death, his autopsy report noted that “the ketamine in his system at death could not have come from that infusion therapy.”
Working with the DEA and the US Postal Inspector, the LAPD began investigating where the ketamine that “ended up playing a role” in the actor’s death came from.
At the time, TMZ reported that an ongoing investigation was seeking to determine where the actor, who spent years battling alcoholism and drug addiction, obtained the ketamine.
“Law enforcement sources tell us there is an ongoing investigation into where Matthew obtained the ketamine that ended up playing a role in his death, and the main questions are who provided the drug and under the circumstances,” the outlet reported.

Sources also told the outlet that “both local police and the DEA have been investigating this matter for months, but it is unclear where exactly investigators are in the investigation.”
It was also revealed that they had already spoken to “some key people in Hollywood,” who “are known to have a history of drug use or abuse,” as they “could have information leading to the source,” according to the report.
A year before his death, he spoke about his struggle with addiction and detailed his journey toward sobriety in his memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.
In the account published in 2022, he stated that he was finally sober after multiple failed attempts to detox and at a personal cost of $9 million.
Sources later told DailyMail.com that the ‘lonely’ star would have younger connections with dating app Raya to deliver drugs to her home even while she was under the care of a 24/7 nursing team of the week.
Despite having a nursing staff in his $6 million Pacific Palisades home, as well as a sober partner living there, Perry managed to have chance encounters that introduced illicit drugs to him undetected, sources explained in December 2023.
“He met girls on dating apps and invited them to come,” insiders claimed.
‘There were a lot of young people aged between 21 and 25 that I would meet in Raya. They would bring drugs with them. It was mainly Oxycontin (a powerful opioid pain reliever). He also got illicit drugs from old girlfriends, there was some kind of network,” a source said.

A year before his death, he opened up about his struggle with addiction and detailed his journey to sobriety in his memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. In the tell-all report released in 2022, he claimed he was finally sober after multiple failed attempts to get clean and at a personal cost of $9 million.
The source added: “I think with (his memoir), Matthew thought it would help him get to the place he was describing.
‘I was writing about what I hoped the situation would be like it was already there. She was writing the script she wanted.”
As for the ketamine that killed Perry, sources say he became addicted to the drug after it was prescribed to him for therapeutic use to treat depression.
The coroner’s report, released earlier this month, found that the ketamine in Perry’s system could not have come from his most recent therapy, and that the amount in his system was similar to the levels used at the hospital to anesthetize the patients.
“The people trying to help him gave him ketamine as therapy,” a source said. ‘It’s really effective for some people, but not all. Matthew wanted to get away from the pain of reality and fell in love with it’s dissociative effects.
“His memoir is a really valuable story about the true nature of addiction,” the source added. “He was a human being who was trying desperately to get clean, but couldn’t do it, and he faced the horrible future that awaits many addicts.”
