Police release image of man wanted for spilling scalding coffee on baby in park

A nine-month-old baby had to undergo surgery after a stranger threw a scalding hot drink on him, as police released an image of a man wanted in connection with the incident.

The baby was on a family picnic at Hanlon Park in Coorparoo, south of Brisbane, when an unknown man approached the group around midday on Tuesday.

The stranger poured a hot liquid, believed to be coffee, over the nine-month-old baby before fleeing the scene.

The baby was rushed to Queensland Children’s Hospital with burns to his chest and face and has since undergone surgery.

The baby’s family told media they are traumatized and heartbroken by the incident.

On Wednesday, police released a CCTV image of a man who could assist with investigations into the assault.

The man is seen running from the public park shortly after the incident occurred.

He is described as being between 30 and 40 years old, with a well-proportioned build and tanned skin.
