pay the police
A May 14 article states that a report from the Center for Crime and Law Studies shows that the police are using unfair methods to increase their pay. While the report found police overtime spending has risen – and said the case was ‘ripe for review’ – the suggestion that this was caused by the Mail’s dishonesty or ‘tricks’ came, not from the report. Officers can start claiming overtime 30 minutes after the end of a shift. The claim that officers make arrests outside normal working hours to increase their payments has been aired before, but we should have made it clear that it is a suspicion. We apologize for any confusion and the article has been corrected.
