Police launch manhunt after 14-year-old girl dragged into bushes and raped in Wigan park

Police have begun a manhunt after a 14-year-old girl was dragged through the bushes and raped in a park in Wigan.
The victim was targeted as she walked across open country south of Westleigh Park in Leigh on Thursday afternoon.
The culprit is described as white, six feet, about 20 years old and with green eyes. He is said to have a southern accent and a black tattoo on the right side of his neck.
Greater Manchester police say the man who struck between 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. was wearing a black Covid mask, a black hooded top and black sweatpants with white stripes.
The victim was targeted as she walked across open country on Thursday afternoon south of Westleigh Park (general view of entrance, pictured above) in Leigh, Wigan, Greater Manchester.
He also wore green trainers with gray piping on the sole and black laces, and brown / green camouflage gloves with bumpy grips on the palms.
Police Superintendent Mark Kenny said: “The girl is being looked after by specialist officers as we investigate this terrifying attack. Our thoughts are with her and her family.
She has shown tremendous courage in providing a very detailed description of the culprit and we hope that someone will recognize the person described.
This attack took place in daylight and there are many homes and businesses along roads leading to Westleigh Park and fields.

‘We ask people in those areas and the surrounding areas to view any CCTV or dashcam camera images. You may have captured the culprit on camera and can provide us with valuable information about his direction of travel.
“I would like to assure the community that there are a number of agents working on this case. In addition, we have additional patrols in the area of the incident.
“We are committed to tracking down the person responsible for this horrific crime and people in the area may notice an ongoing police presence while further investigations are underway.”
