Police are investigating the death of a 62-year-old man discovered in his apartment in a Queens housing project on Tuesday.
Nicandro Rodriguez’s son-in-law discovered him at his fourth-floor apartment in Ravenswood Houses on 35th Ave. near 21st St. in Astoria around 6:50 p.m., the deceased’s son told the Daily News.
Rodríguez had been dead for at least a couple of days before he was found, his son added.
“His house was destroyed,” said his son Ulises Rodríguez, 32. The victim’s son-in-law “found him on the floor, all purple, lying in his own blood.”
Rodríguez lived in Astoria for most of his life after moving to the city from Puerto Rico as a young man.
“He was a loyal guy,” his son said. “If he needs his plumbing fixed, if he needs his car fixed, he would drop everything and do it. That was him.
He had four children and could often be found working on his neighbors’ cars for free.
“He would help you in any way he could,” his son continued. “He was an auto body mechanic for over 40 years.”
Police were still investigating the scene Tuesday night. The city medical examiner will determine the exact cause of his death.
