The bodies of a man and a woman were found on a boat moored in Sydney Harbour overnight.

Emergency services were called to a mooring at Tunks Park last night amid concerns for the welfare of two people believed to have been on the 47ft yacht.

When police arrived, they found the bodies of a man and a woman, aged between 50 and 60.

Specialist assistance was requested from Fire and Rescue NSW due to concerns about fumes detected on board.

Police were told the two people were spending Monday night on the boat and were concerned they might not return.

Detectives have established a crime scene and have begun investigations.

Several items have been identified at the scene and will be taken for forensic examination.

An autopsy will be carried out in the coming days to confirm the identity of the man and woman and determine the cause of death.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
