On Thursday evening, authorities toppled a canoe similar to the couple’s. It is believed that the boat was overtaken by strong winds.

The mother’s body was restored on Monday. Maeve McKean’s mother, former Maryland lieutenant governor, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, is the eldest daughter of the late Robert F. Kennedy and niece of the late President John F. Kennedy.

Maeve, a public health and human rights attorney, was found approximately 2.5 miles south of her mother’s Shady Side, Maryland home.

Gideon was believed to be dead next to his mother.

Kathleen’s brother, Robert F Kennedy Jr, posted on Instagram: “Tonight, the Coast Guard informed our family that it has ended the rescue efforts. The search for remains continues. Rest in peace Maeve and Gideon. ‘

Kathleen herself said in a statement on Friday evening: “With deep sorrow, I share the news that the search for my beloved daughter Maeve and grandson Gideon has changed from rescue to recovery.”
