Police arrest 36-year-old man in London three days after ‘caring’ grandfather, 55, was ‘murdered’ 400 miles away in Perth

A man has been arrested in London after a 55-year-old was found dead more than 400 miles away in Perth.

The body of Ian Menzies was discovered around 8:50 p.m. Monday at a Scott Street building.

Emergency services were called after a report of concern about a person. He is known to have suffered serious head injuries.

Door-to-door investigations were conducted among neighbors of the property in the city center and a forensic team conducted a search of Menzies’ flat.

Officers have now arrested a 36-year-old man in the London area in connection with the death.

Detective Inspector Gary Winter, of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, said: ‘The police will be present in Perth in the coming days and I would like to thank the local residents for your patience in the meantime.’

Menzies’ family paid tribute to him on Wednesday.

A statement they issued through the police says: ‘Ian was the best father, grandfather and brother in the world. He was caring, respected and loved by friends and family.

Words cannot express how much he will be missed.

“As you understand, this is a traumatic time for us as a family. While we appreciate your support, we would like to respectfully ask for our privacy during this very sensitive time.”

The 36-year-old man is still in custody for questioning.
