pokemon go has a Slowpoke and Galarian Slowpoke Community Day event March 18 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time.
As expected at a Community Day event, Slowpoke and Galarian Slowpoke will spawn in huge numbers with a high chance of looking shiny. There are also several other bonuses and benefits, which we have listed below.
How do I catch a shiny Slowpoke?
This is according to research from the Pokémon community site The Silph RoadShiny rates on Community Days are about 1 in 24, meaning if you keep playing through the three-hour window you should find quite a few Shiny Pokémon.
If you’re short on time or Poké Balls, you can get one Incensethen quickly tap each Slowpoke to check for shiny ones, walking away from any that aren’t shiny. Specifically, any Slowpoke you’ve already tapped will face where your player is standing, so that should help identify which ones you’ve already checked.
Which Community Day movement teaches Slowpoke evolution?
If your (Galarian) Slowpoke evolves into (Galarian) Slowbro or (Galarian) Slowking from 2pm to 10pm local time, it will learn the charged move Surf.
Specifically, between 2pm and 10pm, the requirement to catch 30 Poison-type Pokémon to evolve Galarian Slowpoke will instead be changed to 30 Psychic-type Pokémon, so take advantage of that.
If you can’t develop it during this time, you can probably develop it during a Community Day weekend event in December to get Surf. If you don’t want to wait, you can use an Elite TM to get started.
How are Slowbro and Slowking doing in the meta?
If you’re looking for a powerful Slowpoke to mega evolve, don’t bother. Mega Slowbro isn’t great and is outclassed by tons of other water and psychic type Pokémon during raids.
Silph Road’s subreddit analyst Trummler12 notes that the benefits the Slow family will see in PvP from Surf are minimal. They don’t do well in PvP and probably will continue to do so.
How do I get the most out of Slowpoke Community Day?
The following bonuses are active during Slowpoke Community Day:
- Tripled XP for catching Pokémon
- Doubled candy for catching Pokémon
- Doubled chance for Level 31+ Trainers to get XL Candies by catching Pokémon
- Incense lasts three hours
- Lure Modules last three hours
- Slowpoke special photobombs when taking snapshots
- An extra special trade
- Stardust cost halved for trade
That said, you should definitely pop a Lucky Egg and an Incense and try to get your hands on a powerful Slowpoke.
If you can Mega evolve Alakazam, Slowbro, Gardevoir, Medicham, Latios or Latias, you score extra Slowpoke Candy per catch. Mega Evolving a Water-type Pokémon will give you extra Catch Candies for Slowpoke, but not for Galarian Slowpoke, so we recommend going with a Psychic-type.
In addition to all this, Niantic is still running special four-star raids from 5pm to 10pm where if you clear the Slowpoke raid they will spawn in a 300m radius around the gym for 30 minutes. These raids cannot be done remotely. If the usual increase in spawn between 2pm and 5pm doesn’t give you the Slowpoke you wanted, you can try raiding for another chance.
