ISULAN, SULTAN KUDARAT — Director General of Police Benjamin Acorda Jr. rewarded the policeman injured in the operation that killed seven members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Datu Paglas, Maguindanao del Sur, on Sunday 18 June.
Acorda was in town for a short visit on Monday to pay their respects to the families of fallen police officers and those who survived the June 14 ambush in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur.
But besides the two posthumous awards he bestowed on the families of two fallen soldiers and honors to four soldiers injured in the June 14 ambush, he also conferred the “Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting” on Corporal Artchen Echavia of the Force special action (SAF). , who was injured not in this ambush but during a separate policing operation on June 18 in Datu Paglas.
Police said the seven suspected gunmen, who died in Operation Datu Paglas, were members of the breakout group Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), although the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), which signed a peace agreement with the government, said the seven killed belonged to their fold.
Acorda’s short visit, however, was primarily to confer honors on those who died and were injured in the June 14 ambush.
He awarded “Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting” and “Medalya ng Kadakilaan” medals to Police Chief Sergeant Rey Vincent Gertos, PSSG Benjie Delos Reyes, Patrolman Abdulgapor Aliv and Patrolman Arjie Val Loie Pabingit, who were injured during of the June 14 ambush in Shariff. Aguak.
He also presented the posthumous “Medalya ng Kadakilaan” medal to the relatives of patrol officers Saipoden Shiek Macacuna and Byan Polayagan who died in the 8 p.m. ambush.
“Your sacrifices will be remembered, get well soon,” the PNP leader said at Sultan Kudarat Provincial Hospital here, accompanied by Maguindanao del Sur Governor Bai Mariam Sangki Mangudadatu. The wounded police belong to the Maguindanao Mobile Force Company.
