Berry spoke to . last week Weekly entertainment about the film, which was initially pitched with Blake Lively in mind, but Lively “decided in her own time that it wasn’t for her.”
Berry recalled about the project: ‘They gave me the script and I loved the story, but it was written for an Irish Catholic white woman in her twenties. I couldn’t get it out of my head so I thought, is it possible this could be reimagined for someone like me?
“Because I think I have a view of it that could actually work — making it about a middle-aged black woman, someone who’s fighting for one last chance instead of another.”
She added: “When you’re young we all get chances, it’s a dime a dozen. But when you’re at a certain stage of life, it becomes a little more impactful and meaningful, doesn’t it?’
Berry plays the role of Jackie Justice in Bruised, with Stephen McKinley Henderson, Adan Canto and Shamier Anderson.
The film will premiere on Netflix on November 24.
