The match had to be suspended in the Madrid derby after Atlético de Madrid fans appeared to throw objects at Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

After a tense first 45 minutes in which both teams struggled to create any real scoring opportunities, Eder Militao gave the visitors the lead at the Estadio Metropolitano shortly after the hour mark.

Courtois enthusiastically celebrated the Brazilian’s goal against his former club, causing tensions among the home fans behind the Belgian’s goal.

The referee subsequently stopped the action and removed both groups of players from the field while attempting to restore order.

With the match temporarily suspended, Diego Simeone could be seen protesting to the home fans and begging them to stop.
