Forget lip and cheek filler, these days women receive injections directly into their nipples.
This is according to plastic surgeons from New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, who say the trend is beginning to take off.
They hope the injections will make their breasts appear “perkier” and “more aroused” amid a growing trend of braless women and see-through blouses.
Dr. Norman Rowe, a New York City plastic surgeon, says he now sees up to five women a week for the procedure, which involves injecting filler directly into the base of the nipple.
This lifts its tip, making it perkier and giving it a more erect appearance.
Dr. Anna Avaliani, a New York cosmetic surgeon who is also seeing an increase in patients, added: “People travel all over the United States to see me… people don’t change the size of their nipples, they just They improve the look and try.” to appear more “excited.”
The trend comes as women try to emulate celebrities like Bella Hadid, Lauren Sanchez and Bianca Censori, who have been known to free the nipple.
So popular has the trend become, Kim Kardashian’s cClothing brand SKIMS even sells tops with nipple pad inserts.
There are also suggestions that women are taking inspiration from Bianca Censori, pictured above in France in February this year. Surgeons said filler may have been injected into her nipples.
Plastic surgeons say celebrities are inspiring women to pursue firmer nipples, including Bella Hadid (left) and Emma Corrin. Neither surgeon suggested either had used filler to enhance their nipples, but they said the couple could be inspiring the trend.
Dr. Roy Kim, a plastic surgeon who practices in San Francisco, said, “This is definitely a trend, but I think it’s restricted to younger or middle-aged patients who want to wear less of a bra or not cover their nipples.” a lot,’ he said.
It’s unclear if any celebrities have undergone the procedure, although surgeons say famous people are helping inspire the trend.
This month, both Emma Corrin and Charli XCX wore tops on the red carpet that revealed their nipples.
Doja Cat, Zoe Kravitz, Bianca Censori and Rihanna are also prone to showing their nipples in transparent clothing.
Dr Rowe said he wouldn’t be surprised if some of those celebrities had tweaks to their nipples to keep them firm, adding that all four had “a lot of nipple projection.”
The ‘free the nipple’ movement was started in 2012 by filmmaker Lina Esco, who filmed herself running topless through New York City.
Its goal was to affirm gender equality by encouraging women to expose their nipples in the same way men typically do.
Filler injected into the nipples lasts from six months to two years, depending on the type used.
Kim Kardashian is also said to be inspiring the trend. Her clothing brand, SKIMS, sells items with nipple inserts to enhance them.
Lauren Sánchez, Jeff Bezos’ girlfriend, also inspires women with her prominent nipples
Plastic surgeons suggested Doja Cat may have had filler injected into her nipples, saying they looked perkier than they would normally expect.
Other options include surgery to elevate the nipple, but surgeons said this tends to be less popular because it can cause scarring.
The procedure, which is considered “generally safe,” costs up to $5,000, although patients may experience swelling within a week or two after the injections.
Dr. Kim said up to two-thirds of the patients he sees for the procedure have also undergone breast augmentation or “boob jobs.”
People with inverted nipples (where the tip of the nipple points inward) or nipples that they feel are too long after breastfeeding have also requested the procedure.
In rare cases, men have also presented for the procedure; Surgeons said these men were also looking for “harder, more protruding” nipples.
