A passenger plane carrying more than 100 passengers made an emergency landing at Miami Airport after its landing gear failed on landing.

The plane tore through a small building and communications tower as it skidded over the tarmac, then burst into flames as it came to rest between runways.

Three people were rushed to hospital after the accident. The aircraft was carrying 126 passengers and 11 crew members.

The Federal Aviation Administration has confirmed that the plane’s landing has collapsed.

The fire brigade quickly arrived and covered the burning wing with flame-retardant foam.

The aircraft was part of RED Air’s fleet and had arrived in Miami from the Dominican Republic.

A Miami Airport spokesman said flights were delayed due to the crash.
