Pink will receive the ICON Award at the Billboard Music Awards in 2021

Pink will receive the ICON Award at the 2021 Billboard Awards, becoming the ninth artist in history to receive the honor.

NBC and Dick Clark Productions made the announcement Tuesday in a press statement and also revealed that the three-time BBMA winner, 41, will perform at the ceremony on May 23.

‘As a little girl, I always dreamed of becoming a singer and sharing my love for music with the world,’ Pink said in the statement. “Years later, it’s hard to fathom receiving the Billboard Music Awards Icon Award!”

“I feel so honored to join the ranks of music idols such as Cher, Garth Brooks, Janet Jackson and Stevie Wonder,” the global superstar continued. It’s a real ‘pinch me’ moment and I feel humble and blessed. ‘

The 2021 BBMAs will be hosted by Nick Jonas and will be broadcast live from Microsoft Theater at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on NBC. Held annually since 1990, the show honors the best artists, tracks and albums of the year.

The prestigious ICON Award is given to record-breaking artists for their impact on music.

The singer (real name: Alecia Beth Moore) started her career when she was about 14 years old and around the same time took the stage name Pink, stylized as P! Nk. Her debut album Can’t Take Me Home, released in 2000, went double platinum and sold more than 4 million copies worldwide.

However, the turning point in her career came when she, together with singers Christina Aguilera and Mya, together with rapper Lil Kim, performed a cover of Lady Marmalade for the soundtrack of the hit film Moulin Rouge from 2001!
