A single mother is fighting for her life after being involved in a car accident with her young son, in which she suffered a shattered leg and a broken neck.

Maddi Hambly, 27, was driving along Wooli Road in Pillar Valley, about 18 kilometres east of Grafton in northern New South Wales, when her blue Kia Sportage left the road on Sunday.

Police said the woman crashed into a driveway, flipping her car over and landing on its roof in a field, leaving Hambly with serious injuries.

The woman was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition, where she remains in a coma.

Her 18-month-old daughter was not injured in the crash but was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Family friend Tahlia Spicer told 7News that Ms Hambly would have to learn to walk again after both her legs were broken, along with her neck and sternum.

“Maddi is a beautiful person with a big heart,” Ms Spicer said.

Ms Spicer added that Her friend is “lucky to still have” her legs after both were broken in the accident.

Ms Spicer said Ms Hambly was “a beautiful person with a big heart” who “He lives for his beautiful daughter and adores her.

“She’s a daddy’s girl and loves spending time with her family and friends,” he said.
