Piers Morgan has berated ‘downright liar’ Meghan Markle in an explosive interview with Karl Stefanovic on 60 Minutes, in which he railed against ‘cancel culture’ and the ‘woke brigade’.

The Mail Online editor-in-chief redoubled his criticism of the Sussexes, claiming Markle had called his bosses at ITV to complain before famously storming off the set of Good Morning Britain.

He also warned not to go back to gangs of ‘awakened’ do-gooders who ‘march around like they’re Kim Jong-un with a dash of Vladimir Putin’, saying Australia was at risk of becoming like America and giving in to culture’.

“We’re all walking on eggshells, terrified of offending people, terrified of losing our jobs because of a mispronounced Tweet or comment on Facebook, and it has to stop,” Morgan told 60 Minutes.

“Even in Australia, the awake brigade is snapping at people’s heels to get everyone back in their cubicle.

“It started in America, it came to Britain. It has come to Australia and it is a real threat.”

The 56-year-old sensationally left his GMB gig earlier this year after a live altercation with the show’s weatherman Alex Beresford over Harry and Meghan.

Morgan had faced fierce backlash online after stating that he did not believe Markle’s claims during her blockbuster interview with Oprah Winfrey in March.

One of the main claims he focused on was that the Duke and Duchess tied the knot three days before their official ceremony at Windsor Castle in 2018.

“I’m sorry to call her that, but she tells lies…We proved that,” Morgan said of Markle

“Well, that’s not true. They couldn’t be married three days before they said they were married, because then the Archbishop of Canterbury would be a criminal,” Morgan said.

“A lot of things came out of Meghan Markle’s mouth that I knew weren’t true.”

“I thought there were outright lies coming out of the interview and I saw my duty to hold these two people in the same account as a minister.

‘I had to get on the track within 36 hours for that.’

Unbeknownst to the then morning TV host, Markle had personally contacted the station’s top executives to complain about his criticism.

The bestselling author of “Wake Up: Why the World has Gone Nuts” said these days that “you shouldn’t have a strong opinion.”

You can’t make a liar like Meghan Markle unbelievable. I’m sorry to call her that, but she’s telling lies… We’ve proven that,” he said.

Australian TV veteran Stefanovic has always been one of Morgan’s fiercest critics in Australia, previously defending the young couple against Morgan’s attacks.

Speaking of Morgan’s feud with Meghan, Stefanovic said in 2018, “I mean, what’s that guy doing? He has completely lost the plot.

“I don’t know how his poor co-host will put up with it. Imagine having to put up with such a guy who is so haughty and selfish himself that he would think he would say those things about her.’

“It’s disgusting. You wouldn’t take it. He has to go. He doesn’t like it here.’

In Sunday night’s TV showdown, Stefanovic asked Morgan if he was just an ‘angry old man’ – sparking laughter from the media veteran.

Morgan hit back by insisting that “freedom of speech is actually more important than the Meghan Markle debacle.”

‘The origins of wake were well-intentioned. It was to have a consciousness, to be awake to racial and social injustice. We can all sign up for that,” he said.

“But it has been hijacked by extremely illiberal people who claim to be liberal, who have now become the modern fascists.

“These people are marching around like they’re Kim Jong-un with a touch of Vladimir Putin. And for me that will kill our societies.”

Morgan blames social media, labeling it the “ultimate form of the kind of tribalism” that has sparked another “culture war.”

“You sign up to an echo chamber and most people just follow people they agree with strengthen your opinion on everything,’ he said.

“So I think we’re in a culture war and I’m willing to fight it like a liberal calling on fellow liberals who have just lost their minds.

“Look, think about what you’re doing and stop everyone from living their lives.”

The controversial TV star said it is now more important than ever to ‘stand up for yourself’ and for ‘basic freedoms’.

‘We are allowed to have strong opinions, even if it makes some people shudder. That’s what made our countries so great,” Morgan said.

“I don’t license vile racists – they should absolutely be removed from both – but come on, everyone take a chill pill.”

Morgan and Stefanovic will face each other again Monday morning, local time, on Channel Nine’s Today Show.
