Pires Morgan has jumped to the defense of Cristiano Ronaldo, accusing Manchester United of shameful disrespect for the Portuguese star.
Ronaldo refused to fill in for Tottenham on Wednesday night and then walked alone through the Old Trafford tunnel before the final whistle.
Erik ten Hag declined to comment on the situation after the game, but on Thursday the club released a statement saying the 37-year-old would be removed from Man United’s squad for their game with Chelsea next Saturday.

His antics have raised doubts about Ronaldo’s future at the club, with many fans suggesting it is time for the Portuguese icon to leave the club. However, Piers Morgan believes that both the club and its supporters do not show enough respect for their number seven.
On Twitter, the TV presenter, whose own Great Morning Britain strike in 2021 has been compared to Ronaldo’s stomping through the tunnel on Wednesday night, said: “I think the collective disrespect for Cristiano from his manager and many Utd fans after all what he has done for your club, not least last season, is shameful. That’s my opinion.’
It’s not the 57-year-old’s first comment about the situation this week. On hearing news that Ronaldo had been dropped for Saturday’s trip to Stamford Bridge, Morgan had suggested to United’s manager that he would be better off at another club.

Again, the TV host posted on Twitter: “Outrageous. Ten Hag once again chose to humiliate the greatest footballer in history and Utd’s top scorer last season… @Cristiano should find another club as soon as possible where they treat him with the respect he has earned.”
Ten Hag’s decision not to play Ronaldo mid-week paid off as United put in their best performance of the season with a 2-0 win over Spurs, thanks to goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes.
In recent games, the Dutchman has tended to take the former Ballon d’Or winner off the bench and planned to do so again on Wednesday before Ronaldo refused to be replaced.
He has remained a minor player so far this season, scoring just once in the Premier League, with Ten Hag putting his trust in younger forwards Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and new recruit Antony.
