Did you think you had a mean neighbor? This little house was built entirely out of spite.

The Casa du Currivu, also known as ‘House of Spite’, is a very strange looking house located in the Sicilian village of Petralia Sottana.

Located in the heart of the Madonie Mountains, in the province of Palermo, it holds the unofficial title of “the narrowest house in the world.”

From the front, it might look like a typical house, with red brick walls, windows, and a front door. There is even a balcony and a street number on the side.

Everything seems perfectly normal until you look from the side and realize that the walls are only a meter thick: there is not enough space for anyone to live in them.

Not that the owner cared. It was built to serve a different purpose: revenge.

According to a local legendThe House of Resentment was built in the 1950s after a dispute between two neighbors.

At that time, it was common for Sicilians to expand their residence by adding one more floor. To do this they had to obtain the consent of their next-door neighbors.

In this case, the owner of the House of Spite did not get the approval of one of his neighbors. The neighbor in question did not want the view of the extensive mountains from his window to be obstructed.

The owner decided to take revenge and found a small loophole.

The house was built in the 50s, is only one meter wide and is completely uninhabitable.

The Casa du Currivu is reportedly “useless”: there is only one staircase inside

Although he needed the neighbor’s permission to build the house between the existing properties, he only had to respect the minimum distance between the two buildings. So he went ahead and built his slim abode.

According to the Sicilian mail, the house “has no value” and is practically empty inside. It has one floor and a staircase and is “so narrow that two people could not enter together.”

To make matters worse, the back of the house was painted black, replacing the picturesque views with an extra boring façade.

Today, the place has become a popular tourist destination.
