The woman was found dead along with her three daughters and the grandmother of the girls has been remembered as an "affectionate mother".

Detectives found the bodies of Mara Harvey, her daughters Charlotte, Alice and Beatrix, and their mother Beverley Quinn at their home in Bedford, Perth, on Sunday.

After receiving information from a man in his 20s who attended a police station hundreds of kilometers away, the police arrived to find the television still on.

Harvey, who owns the property on Coode Street in the northeast of the city, has been described as "unlucky in love," and her husband Anthony was 18 years younger than her.

The couple lived in the small brick house and had the first of their three children a year after Mr. Harvey proposed it in 2014, WA Today reported.

Located in a large corner block in the northeast of the city, the modest three-bedroom house was last sold in 2008 and since then it has been out of the market.

In the photos you can see a compact kitchen and a large independent outdoor garage, along with a covered backyard that overlooks the lawn.

The bodies found inside were twins, two years old, another girl, three and a half years old, and her mother and grandmother.

The ages of the children and their relationship with the two adult women found at the Bedford address were confirmed Monday by the WA police.

"The man who currently helps the police remains in custody, no charges have been filed at this time," police said. It is believed that the man was known by the victims, although this has not yet been confirmed.

The police have not said how the women and children died, and how long the bodies were there has yet to be determined.

The homicide detectives and the specialized forensic police will continue on Monday to search the house for evidence and clues about what happened after the shocking discovery on Sunday.

"Depending on the size of the crime scene it will take a period of time, and it could be a number of days," said Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Region, Paul Steel.

"It's kind of tragic when incidents like this happen, it sends a wave through the Western Australian community."

The police have not said how the women and children died, and how long the bodies were there has yet to be determined.

The horrified residents said the victims looked like a normal and happy family.

"It's so sad, they have small children, it's horrible at all levels," María Manfredini told WA Today.

"It's very sad, they have elementary school children and I thought it could not be," said a neighbor.

The resident of Coode Street, Vagner D & # 39; Souza, told ABC News that the incident had taken the street by surprise.

"They seemed like a normal family, you would never imagine that something like this would happen here," said D & # 39; Souza.

Neighbors told reporters that they had not seen the family in at least seven days.

"We thought they were on vacation, they have not been there all week," Desrae Cambos told 7 News.

Ms. Cambos said that the father of the family had a lawn mowing and gardening business and that she had not seen her work outside the premises for a few days.

The tragedy comes after a 19-year-old man was charged with murdering an eight-year-old boy, a 15-year-old girl and his mother in Ellenbrook in July.

At the time of the incident, Steel said it was "potentially the most horrible crime scene he has been called to."

In July, four children and three adults were found dead on a property in Western Australia in Osmington, Australia's worst mass shooting since the Port Arthur massacre in 1996.

The bodies of Peter Miles, 61, his wife of 58 years, Cynda, his daughter Katrina, 35, and their four autistic children with their separated partner Aaron Cockman – Taye, 13, Rylan, 12, Arye, 10 and Kadyn Cockman, 8 – were found at the Miles residence.

Three firearms were located in the scene belonging to the grandfather Peter Miles.

"It's kind of tragic when incidents like this happen, it sends a wave through the Western Australian community," said Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Region Paul Steel (the photo shows the police on the spot)
