Shiver was a former college football player at Auburn University, who met his wife at her alma mater while she was a cheerleader.
He played as a long-term player from 2006 to 2009 for Auburn, and although he was not drafted by an NFL team, he was signed as a free agent before the 2009 season.
However, he was not signed by the team and released, as he turned to a career in insurance, working for Senior Life Insurance Company in Thomasville, Georgia.
Robert, the son of former Flowers Foods CEO Allen Shriver, married Lindsay in 2010 and they share three sons: Grayson, 11, Landon, 10, and Rhett, 4.
The couple was in the middle of divorce proceedings and fighting for custody when the murder-for-hire plot was uncovered.
Lindsay had reportedly been in contact with Terrance Bethel for some time and when Robert learned of the affair, he began divorce proceedings and cut her off from their home and her family’s private jet.
Lindsay also filed a counterclaim that Robert had been violent during their marriage, when the plot was discovered.
Police were investigating a break-in at Grabbers, a popular Great Guana Cay watering hole where Bethel had worked.
Police asked Grabbers employees to hand over their phones to investigate the break-in, when they discovered messages between Lindsay, Bethel and future hitman Faron Newbold, discussing Robert’s death.
She reportedly tearfully confessed to sending photos of Robert to Newbold and asking him to kill her husband.
At the time, Robert was visiting his family’s property in nearby Baker’s Bay before his wife was arrested.
A Superior Court judge set Lindsay’s bail at $100,000, which was paid and she was released. Although there were reports that Robert posted bail, they have since been debunked.
Lindsay is expected to remain in the Bahamas while the case is pending and will be forced to surrender her passport until indictment in October.
Robert is currently seeking sole custody of his three children while Lindsay awaits arraignment in the Bahamas.

“I’m in that anger part of grief right now. I’m just angry about everything. And also, after taking care of the children. I’m like, ‘Okay. Do I really want children? Do I? You know, how much this has affected us?” Savannah admitted.
However, she clarified that she was not upset about having to take care of her brother and niece after her parents were locked up.
“I don’t want anyone to take what I said out of context at all. I love these two children more than life itself,” she said.
“They are everything to me,” she said. “We have so much fun together. I try to have as much fun as possible,” she added.
She will next be seen in the Fox reality series Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, whose second season premieres on September 25.
