The heartbroken family of an Australian man who was stabbed to death at a Thai tourist spot are mourning the loss of his “beautiful and talented” brother and his son.

Liam Michael Ross, 35, was found with stab wounds to his abdomen, leg and arm on Ao Nang beach in Krabi early on Monday.

He was rushed to hospital but later died from his injuries.

Mr Ross’s family issued a brief statement through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on Friday morning.

“We are heartbroken by the loss of our beautiful, talented and much loved Liam,” they said.

‘The world is a poorer place after his passing. Thank you to his family, friends and colleagues for their support.

‘We ask that all family members be allowed to grieve Liam’s passing privately.’

Witnesses reported that both men had been drinking at a nearby restaurant before the incident and reportedly had a disagreement.

They reportedly met again as the Australian man was walking back to his hotel, which allegedly led to a confrontation.

At first the two exchanged words, but the situation soon escalated into a physical fight.

Johnson, 43, allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Ross several times.

Photographs from the scene show the incident occurred next to the seashell sculpture at the south end of the beach road, outside the entrance to the Holiday Inn complex.

Ao Nang is a popular tourist destination located in Krabi Province, Southern Thailand.

It is known for its nightlife and beaches.
